Our first project, Battle of the Belt, is a collaborative effort with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the St. Louis County Police Department. This program is a safety belt competition between high schools at the MoDOT regional level and then on a state level. The goal of Battle of the Belt is to reduce the number of motor vehicle related injuries and fatalities among Missouri high school students, by increasing safety belt usage. Teen representatives at the participating schools, with supervision from school personnel, conducted unannounced safety belt checks, as well as an educational campaign.
